On Saturday, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a significant initiative aimed at supporting Durga Puja pandal organizers in the capital. Each Durga Puja pandal will receive 1,200 units of complimentary electricity, and organizers will only need to pay 25% of the required security deposit for electricity meter installation ahead of the festivities.
Support for Festival Preparations
During a meeting with members of various Durga Puja committees, CM Gupta revealed the establishment of a committee led by a Cabinet minister to tackle any issues related to the festival preparations, which kick off on September 28.
CM Gupta emphasized, “A committee chaired by a Cabinet Minister has been formed to address every issue related to the event. Our commitment is to ensure that Durga Puja in Delhi, from the arrival of Maa Durga to her farewell, is celebrated with utmost devotion and respect,” she told reporters.
She assured committee members that arrangements would be made for traffic management, sanitation facilities, water supply, ambulances, and other essential services for public convenience.
Each pandal will benefit from 1,200 units of free electricity, with only a 25% security deposit needed for the connection.
“To facilitate the committees, we have implemented a single-window approval system this time. Each pandal will receive 1,200 units of free electricity, and only a 25% security deposit will be required for the connection. We will ensure cleanliness, fogging, sanitation facilities, water tankers, traffic management, and ambulances from the health department. Special arrangements will also be made for the immersion process,” CM Gupta shared on X.

In a similar vein, Ramlila committees will also receive the benefit of 1,200 units of electricity from the Delhi government. “We have decided that just as assistance was provided to Delhi's committees in the Kanwar camps, the Delhi government will extend the same support of 1,200 units of electricity to all Ramlila committees. Additionally, they will only need to pay 25% of the security deposit for electricity meters. These provisions will apply to all Ramlila committees and Durga pandals in Delhi,” CM Gupta added.
